2. Angle Closure Glaucoma
It is an emergency and the patient should see their ophthalmologist as soon as possible
Risk factors of Glaucoma
1. Age over 40
2. Family history positive for glaucoma
3. Are of African or Asian heritage
4. IOP is high
5. Are farsighted or nearsighted.
6. Used long term steroid medications
7. Have thin central cornea
8. Have thinning of optic nerve.
9. Have diabetes, migraine, high blood pressure, poor blood circulation.
10. Other health problems.
During glaucoma examination, your ophthalmologist will
1. Measure your IOP
2. Dp gonioscopy inspect your eye’s drainage angle
3. Examine your RNFL & optic nerve for damage with OCT Macula
4. Test your visual fields.
5. Measure thickness of your cornea.
1. Treatment for Glaucoma
Medical treatment is with eye drops. Every dose, every day – it can save your sight. Glaucoma eye drops do have some side effect but never quit medicine until your doctor tell you to do that.
2. Surgical Treatment
It is done when eye drops no longer control glaucoma & it continues to progress in spite of the best drugs. Treating glaucoma is a team effort between you and your doctor. Your ophthalmologist will want to see you regularly. You are expected to visit your ophthalmologist every 3-6 months.
